Looking Back
It seems like ages ago that I made my debut with S Club 8. It blew me away that I was merely 12 years old when we released our first hit album and performed in front of thousands. We could have never expected how popular we became. My family kept old pictures of the band and looking back I'm absolutely astonished at how young we all were. It was one the most fun times in my life, except for learning all the dance routines. We're all grown now and moved on with our current aspirations but I know we all look back at those times with great fondness and nostalgia.
To Answer Your Questions...
I get asked a lot of questions about my days with S Club 8. More often than not people ask me "What is my favourite S Club 8 song?". There are so many cool songs to choose from, but if I had to pick a one, it would be "Sundown". It was so much fun to make the music video, with the green screen and with all the special effects. Although the dance routine was really challenging.
I also get asked quite a bit "Do you keep in touch with any of your former band mates?". After S Club 8, we all went our separate ways and moved on to our own projects. I moved to L.A., then to South Africa, to shoot "Life is Wild". Now I'm back in L.A. again. Keeping in touch has been very difficult for all of us. I still try to see Frankie whilst in London and I give Aaron and Daisy a message on their mobile or email. We're all still great friends and we're very happy for each others' success after S Club 8.
Another question that always comes up is "Did you ever date any of your band mates?". Or "Did you ever fancy any of them?" Simply put, no. I never dated anyone from the band. I know I was branded the "Flirtatious Junior" but the girls were like family. We developed a bond from working together in the studio and then touring on the road. I'm sorry if this disappoints anyone but I'll just say, for the record, Rochelle always made me laugh, Frankie has a great singing voice and Daisy was the best dancer.
S CLUB FACTS
S Club Juniors was assembled in 2001 after a talent search across the U.K. Over 10,000 kids from ages 11 to 14 auditioned for the prospect of being the opening act for highly successful S Club 7 for the bands forthcoming "Carnival" tour. In the end, eight members were chosen to be what was then dubbed "S Club Juniors". The tour was so successful, that it spawned the opportunity for S Club Juniors to begin a music journey of their own. The band found huge success and earned an enormous following. Their debut album,
"Together", became a popular hit in the UK, peaking at #5 on the charts. Their first three singles from the album were Top 10 chart hits. Following the success of "Together", the band went through a makeover, starting with the name. S Club Juniors became S Club 8, and they evolved their sound from a more youthful pop sound to high energy dance beats. Their next album "Sundown" produced two Top 10 chart hits, "Fool No More" and "Sundown". The next move for S Club 8 was to costar in the BBC television show, I Dream. The premise revolved around the lives of talented students who attend an exclusive performing arts college in Barcelona, Spain. The show was both drama and musical that showcased the talents of S Club 8. An accompanying album, "Welcome to Avalon Heights" was released. It featured the hit song, "Dreaming", a duet sung by Calvin Goldspink and Frankie Sandford.
