Things are Wild on the set of Life is Wild
Put Calvin Goldspink, loose fitting Nike shorts and a playful lion cub together and you get a recipe for disaster, well, not quite. But in this MSNBC article, there's a funny story of what happened on the set with Calvin and a lion cub.
Columnist Gael Fashingbauer Cooper puts the spotlight on "Life is Wild". She points out that even though it's a family show, there's a great educational element. Serious topics like poaching, the AIDS epidemic and Apartheid are featured in many of the plots. Producer Michael Rauch said, "I think it's incumbent upon us in the production of this show and the network it's airing on to be truthful about the country the show is set in. And otherwise, why do it in South Africa?" Cooper gives a high grade for "Life is Wild", praising it's family and educational values.
Now on to the story about Calvin and the lion cub. The cast were asked to handle some of their wild animal co-stars. On this occasion, Calvin's assignment was to pet a lion cub. Yet, he was wearing loose fitting athletic shorts. As he was handling the cub, it clawed at him and pulled his shorts down, giving the cast and crew a little "indecent exposure".
